María Elena Terrero joined the firm as an intern in 1992. After graduating in 1997, she became a junior associate supporting the trademarks department. In 1998, she become manager of the trademarks department. In 1999, María Elena was invited to take a guest position on the Science and Technology Committee of the Venezuelan National Assembly, where she actively participated in discussions as to the reform of the Intellectual Property Law. Later, in 2005, she was promoted to head of the international department at Bolet & Terrero. She has consistently worked to promote the modernization of this department, specifically in terms of technology and communications, by updating IP management systems and creating a social media presence.
The majority of María Elena’s clients are Fortune 500 companies and large local clients, to whom she offers patent negotiation and transaction services. Since 2015 she has been head of the firm’s Special Projects. Among her responsibilities in this position are overseeing activities under the agreement signed with Fundación Parque Tecnológico Sartenejas, a local tech venture developed by the prestigious Universidad Simón Bolivar.
In 2017 María Elena was appointed member of INTA’s Harmonization of Trade Law and Practice Committee and is currently president of its Free Trade Agreements Sub-Committee. In addition, she heads up Bolet & Terrero’s pro bono projects for NGOs.
