Manuel Polanco joined the firm as an associate in 1996 and after a year took on the role of managing associate. He was made partner of the firm in 1999, and since 2000 he has been the managing partner. Before joining the firm, he was a partner at general private practice firm Polanco, Asuaje and Marmol between 1990 and 1994. Between 1995 and 1998, he lectured on Politics and Legal Frameworks at the Universidad Metropolitana de Caracas.

At Bolet & Terrero, Manuel’s leadership has been characterized by modernization, both in terms of updating the firm’s systems and processes as well as raising the academic and professional standards of its employees. He has trained in negotiation at Harvard Law School, and has attended Management for Lawyers courses at the University of Yale. He has an interest in theology. He has been the Venezuelan delegate before the Administrative Council of ASIPI (whose conferences he has attended since 1993), and president of the Venezuelan Group of AIPPI (whose events he has attended since 1995). Luis Henriquez joined Bolet & Terrero as a partner in 2021, having been a founding partner of MHOV Abogados in 2006 and where he worked until 2021. For 20 years Luis has worked with multinational businesses and corporations protecting and defending their trademarks, patents, and other intellectual property assets in Venezuela and abroad. He has also negotiated and drafted every type of agreement related to intellectual property rights.

Since 2012 Luis has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Interamerican Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI). As a key member of ASIPI he has developed close relationships with other international associations such as the European Community Trademark Association (ECTA), the International Trademark Association (INTA), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), among other organizations, as well as national IP offices in the region, with which he has led various projects and activities promoting and defending intellectual property in Latin America. Rafael Ortín joined Bolet & Terrero as a partner in 2021, having founded MHOV Abogados as partner in 2006 and where he worked until 2021. Since 1993 Rafael has focused his practice on industrial property, founding the National Copyright Directorate of Venezuela (1994-1995), and later was in charge of the intellectual property & entertainment department of multinational Grupo Cisneros (1998-2006), before founding IP boutique MHOV Abogados. In 28 years of professional practice, Rafael has worked with national and multinational businesses and corporations particularly in the telecommunications, sports and entertainment, retail, and tech industries among others, advising on the protection, defense, and exploitation of their intangible assets. He also regularly draws on his professional expertise in IP to teach at university and provide consulting through various national and international bodies.

María Auxiliadora joined the trademarks department of Bolet & Terrero in 1996, working mainly in prosecution. In 1998, she was promoted to head of the administrative appeals department, and in 2000, head of the reports department. Since 2007, she has headed up the renewals and transfers department, where she handles licensing contracts, assignments, affidavits, changes of name and trademark renewals. Before entering the firm, María Auxiliadora worked for 6 years in a well-known multinational food company, where she oversaw its trademark matters.

She has been a member of the ASIPI’s Regulatory Committee since 2012 and has been vice president of the Venezuelan Association of Industrial Property Agents (COVAPI) since 2013. Read More.

Annette joined Bolet & Terrero in 2021 to join our team and contribute with the knowledge that, as an Intellectual Property attorney with more than 15 years of experience in the area, she obtained in the coordination and execution of all the procedures related to trademarks, patents and copyrights for clients both in Venezuela and abroad, in one of the specialized law firms in this area in Venezuela. Her practice includes the drafting of various types of contracts in the areas of industrial property and copyright, as well as the design of strategies for the protection and defense of clients’ intangible assets. She is currently a professor of Intellectual and Industrial Property in the Specialization in Corporate Law at the Universidad Metropolitana and of Distinctive Signs in the Specialization in Intellectual Property at the Universidad Monteávila, both in Caracas.

She also serves as Secretary of the Venezuelan Association of Industrial Property Agents COVAPI since 2018. She participated in the Technical Roundtable of the Science, Technology and Innovation Commission that was in charge of drafting the Industrial Property Bill presented in the National Assembly in 2019.
